IF YOU’RE PARENT!

Stop expecting anything from the system. The system is misogynist. It won’t be of any good when the rapists are leaders. Be a sensible human being to introduce feminism, human rights, equality. Inculcate the seed in your children.

● Read “The Second Sex”, start believing in the idea. Make it a curriculum for your children which the schools won’t make for the misogynist sytemn won’t allow it to. In a country of 70% illiteracy, you cannot expect the society to be equal. Be vocal in your approach. Spread the idea of Simone, to at least aware the women who still believe they are nothing without their men.

● Stop limiting the knowledge to Ram Mohan Roy, Vidyasagar or Gandhi. If you limit the knowledge to them only, you’re making them bound to be with a man. They grow up to think that a man is the protector and giver of rights. Educate them in the truest sense. Open them up to the life of Jyotiba Phule or Begum Rokeya or Sylvia Plath. They’ll grow to make the atmosphere less misogynist and one day misogyny would die before them.

● If you’re a parent, then stop being a misogynist one. Don’t fake your parenting by making them educated in a wrong them. Don’t teach them about the good of misogynist acts of Gods. Don’t just say that Draupadi was saved by Krishna and so Krishna was good. Say that a God supported those who kept their wife in a gamble. Teach them that Ram was patriarchal and misogynist. Aware them that even Mohammad made a way to suppress the women. I’m not saying to not make them religious. But don’t introduce them to the wrong of religion as the good ones. Don’t be a suppressive wife before you child or even you are not before your children. They’ll learn to be a vulnerable one.

● Educate your sons with the idea of womanhood. Women know what it means to have a vagina. Men don’t. Aware them with the situation of menstruation. Teach them how to avoid gender roles and how offensive it is. Show them that a Barbie ain’t for girls only. Teach your daughter/s how to protest when a boy laughs at the stain in her skirt. Teach them how to treat a molester. Don’t silence when they talk about sex education or they want to share how they were touched in their school or bus or anywhere else. Be a true parent.

● Force the schools and other educational institutions to avoid all the sexist examples in their books. Don’t let the teachers teach the orthodox idea of woman and manhood. Provide them ideas to organize camps on sexuality to make the men educated. Don’t make the girls sit separate from girls. India sees 60% of rapes committed by boys in the age group of 15 – 20 years. So, educate them about the law and embarrasse the patriarchy of this nation.

● “Will you be my Tawaaif…oh sorry, wife? “Iski ovaries nikal do! Na mamma banegi na mia niklega…mamma mia” two of the dialogues of Housefull 3 which grew up as sensational. “Mai toh tanduri murgi hu yaar, gatkale saiyaan alcohol se” the biggest dance number of last year. There are many such examples where rape and molestation have been glorified and yet everyone enjoyed. Children danced on these numbers and they laughed when such dialogues were delivered. If they become rapists in future, would it be strange enough? To me, no. If you’re a parent, or even if you aren’t, don’t train your children to become a rapist in the future. Stop giving them such mindless shit as evening gifts which they later remember as their birth right. Show them the films which matter. Not some Kabir Singh where beating a woman is love and owning a woman is glorified.

● If you don’t let your children learn about who Soni Sori is or how did Amrita Pritam live with all her fights, then you’ll leave your girl to the men and the boy will grow to be the same dominant beast this society does not deserve. It is time to make everyone a feminist because if you aren’t a feminist then you’re a sexist!

Bullets will just make the nation blood thirsty and it’ll be a dark hell where this country would fail to glow on its past. You cannot expect an encounter to be an answer when you enjoy misogyny and get trained under patriarchy. Darkness cannot extinguish darkness. Only light can.
